Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about AI Search, GEO, and the Superlines platform.

What is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving how your brand is retrieved, cited, and recommended inside AI-generated answers on platforms like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, and Mistral. While SEO focuses on ranking web pages in search results, GEO helps you track visibility in AI search, analyze how large language models interpret your content, and measure which actions improve your presence across AI platforms.

Why is AI Search visibility important?

AI assistants like ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, and Mistral are where customers increasingly start their discovery process. When people ask these platforms for recommendations, brands that appear first gain trust, visibility, and awareness earlier in the buying journey. According to Gartner, 50% of traditional search traffic will be replaced with generative AI by 2028.

What is Superlines?

Superlines is an AI Search Intelligence platform that works like an advanced AI Search Console. It continuously tracks where your brand appears in AI-generated answers, analyzes what content earns citations, and shows what actions improve your visibility. All data is structured, transparent, and easy to act on — via the UI, API, or MCP server.

Which AI platforms does Superlines monitor?

We track the real front-end experiences users see on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, Claude, Mistral, and Grok. Instead of relying on API calls, we capture the exact outputs shown on these sites — exactly as a user would see them.

How does Superlines differ from other GEO tools?

Most tools rely on API-based answer analysis, which differs from what users actually see in AI interfaces. Superlines is a purpose-built GEO platform that delivers enterprise-grade visibility data based on real AI interface outputs. It supports execution through the UI, in-app agent, API, and MCP server — making it actionable at scale.

Can I track competitors in AI Search?

Yes. Superlines gives you a detailed view of how your competitors perform across AI search. You can see which brands are cited most often, what type of content earns them visibility, and how their share of voice changes over time. It also highlights new market entrants and rising competitors.

What is the Superlines MCP server?

The Superlines MCP (Model Context Protocol) server allows AI agents like Claude, Cursor, and Windsurf to directly access your AI Search data. This means your AI assistant can analyze your visibility, suggest improvements, audit competitor pages, and generate action plans — all through natural conversation.

How do I find the right prompts to track?

There are two main approaches depending on your situation. If you have existing marketing data — messaging frameworks, FAQ databases, support tickets, keyword lists — you can import those directly into Superlines and organize them by brand and label. For teams that need discovery, Superlines offers Prompt Radar, which automatically identifies trending prompts from SEO, SERP, and People Also Ask data sources that you're not yet tracking. You can also import prompts from Google Search Console based on high-impression or high-click queries. The MCP server can further automate this — for example, an agent can combine external keyword data with AI analysis to discover and add strategic prompts automatically.

What are fan-out queries and why do they matter?

When an AI model answers a question, it often performs background web searches to gather information — these are called fan-out queries. Superlines tracks these searches and shows you exactly what the AI looked for, which results it found, and which pages earned citations. This is powerful competitive intelligence: you can see which competitor pages are winning citations, discover content gaps where you're missing from AI research, and identify the exact topics and URLs that AI models consider authoritative for your key prompts.

Can Superlines automate my AI search optimization?

Yes. Superlines supports a progression from manual monitoring to fully autonomous optimization. At the simplest level, you use the dashboard and in-app agent for analysis. The next step is using the MCP server to run automated workflows — for example, an AI agent that periodically checks your competitive gaps, audits top-performing competitor pages, and generates content recommendations. At the most advanced level, you can build autonomous content pipelines that discover opportunities, create optimized content, and publish to your CMS — all without manual intervention. See our Cookbook for step-by-step guides at every level.

Can I build agentic workflows with Superlines?

Absolutely. The Superlines MCP server is designed to be the intelligence layer in agentic marketing workflows. You can combine it with other MCP servers — such as SERP scrapers, keyword research tools, or CMS connectors — to build multi-step flows where AI agents autonomously discover prompts to track, analyze competitive gaps via fan-out queries, audit competitor content, and feed insights to content creation agents. Our Agentic AEO Pipeline cookbook shows a production-ready example using three specialized sub-agents.

What does Average Position measure?

Average Position shows where your brand typically appears in the order of mentions within AI answers. If an AI response recommends five brands and yours is mentioned second, your position for that response is 2. The dashboard shows a volume-weighted average across all your tracked prompts, a trend chart with competitor comparison, and a leaderboard ranking all brands by their average position. Lower is better — Position 1 means your brand is the first recommendation.

How soon can we see results?

Most teams identify their first improvement opportunities during onboarding and can measure visibility changes within days. Superlines enables faster iteration and measurable progress from day one.
